TRO honours the memory of the 51 schools girls and 3 staff members who were killed on the 14th of August 2006 during an aerial bombardment by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). The school girls were attending a Leadership, Self-Awareness and First Aid workshop in Vallipuram, Mullaitivu funded and supported by the Centre for Women's Rehabilitation and Development (CWRD). 129 others were also injured during the bombing. Over the last year Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) has taken on the responsibility of providing funding for the rehabilitation of the survivors of this war crime. This includes:
Children throughout the NorthEast continue to be the innocent victims of war due to shelling, bombing, displacement, rape, murder and torture. TRO calls on the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) to respect international humanitarian law and ensure children and the places where they live, study and play are protected from harm. For the names and ages of the victims of this atrocity and information on ways to assist the survivors of the bombing please visit the August 14th Memorial Fund website: |
