"..The harbor of Trincomalee is one of the wonders of nature and is a strategic area in the Indian Ocean; and Trincomalee had been a purely Tamil area along with Jaffna, Mannar, Vavunia, Batticaloa and Ampara, until the administrative fusion with the Sinhalese country; and The Tamils of the island had been there from time immemorial.."

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS The district of Trincomalee in the eastern coast of Eelam which comprises the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka has from time immemorial been extolled in the Hindu scriptures as a place of worship; and
WHEREAS The harbor of Trincomalee is one of the wonders of nature and is a strategic area in the Indian Ocean; and
WHEREAS Trincomalee had been a purely Tamil area along with Jaffna, Mannar, Vavunia, Batticaloa and Ampara, until the administrative fusion with the Sinhalese country; and
WHEREAS The Tamils of the island had been there from time immemorial; and
WHEREAS The citizens of Somerville recognized last year the domination and discrimination of the Tamils by successive Sri Lanka governments; and hence proclaimed Trincomalee and Somerville as sister cities; and
WHEREAS The citizens of Somerville continue to support the quest for Self Determination by the Tamils of Eelam.
BE IT RESOLVED:
That EUGENE C. BRUNE, MAYOR OF SOMERVILLE, in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood, do hereby proclaim June 22, 1981, as the 1st Anniversary of Eelam Tamils Day.
