பெல்ஜியத்தில் உள்ள ஐரோப்பிய நாடாளுமன்றம் முன்பாக 24.10.05-இல் நடைபெற்ற 'எழுகதமிழ்" எழுச்சிப் பேரணி நிகழ்வின் படத்தொகுப்பு Tamil representatives, Legal experts meet EU officials [TamilNet, October 24, 2005 11:16 GMT] Francis Boyle, professor of international law at the University of Illinois and a leading practitioner and advocate of international law, Mr. V. Rudrakumaran, an attorney of law based in New York, U.S, and a legal advisor to the Tamil delegation at the peace negotiations, met a high level delegation of European Commission External Relations officials on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Brussels following the Tamil diaspora rally. The experts who attended the 2-hours-long meeting presented their view to the European Commission representatives on the peace process in Sri Lanka. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna MP, Mr. Gajendran Selvarajah also participated in the meeting.
The delegation included the Tamil diaspora representatives from various European countries including Ms. Eliza Mann from UK, Mr. Maheswaran from Denmark and Mr. Yogarajah Balasingham from Norway.
A memorandum urging the EU to reconsider its recent stand was handed over to the European Commission, sources added.
Francis Boyle holds a Doctor of Law and a Ph.D. in Political Science, both from Harvard. He drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989; served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International (1988-1992); represented Bosnia- Herzegovina at the World Court; was Legal Advisor on the Palestinian Declaration of Independence of 1988 and Palestinian Peace Initiative, as well as Legal Advisor to the Palestinian Delegation to the Middle East Peace Negotiations from 1991 to 1993; and helped to draft the Oslo Agreement.
The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna MP, Mr. Gajendran Selvarajah and Mr. T. Thirumavalavan, from Tamil Nadu state in India and the leader of Dalilt party in Tamil Nadu, addressed the rally.
Professor Peter Schalk, chair of History of Religions, at the University of Uppsala in Sweden, Professor P Ramasamy, Visiting Professor of Political Economy, Faculty of Social Sciences University of Kassel Germany and Rev. Fr. Albert Koolen from Germany also participated in the rally. |
