"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."

- Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C

  • Garage owner shot dead in Chavakacheri
    [TamilNet, Saturday, 02 December 2006, 14:09 GMT]

Owner of a vehicle repair facility in Dutch Road, Chavakacheri in Thenmaradchy district was shot dead by two gunmen riding in a motorbike at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, sources said. The body has been transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations. Mylvaganam Thavarajah, 28, was on his way to open his garage located near the Chavakachcheri District Court when he was shot. He was earlier arrested by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and threatened following a claymore attack near the Chavakachcheri Court premises and was released. The killing has raised fears of renewed activity by SLA and collaborating paramilitary death squads in Thenmaradchy, civil society sources said.
