"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."

- Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C

Prosaic Dream
23 March 2006

Dedicated to Chandra Fernando a.k.a I.G.P

I have a dream
A nightmare really!
A group of burly men
Dressed in frocks and aprons
Complete with purple toupee
With ornaments and necklaces
Manhandled and abducted me.

I have a dream
These men said their prayers
And ate éclairs
Planting a red golden ring
Singing Ding, dong, ding
And dressed me in frocks
Hiding my curly locks
Underneath a purple toupee!

Now they said:
“Stand up young man,
We anoint you to be the
Local Bishop
Go! Go!” They hurriedly me along…

I sat up while standing; but wouldn’t shut up!
I protested my innocence
Why do you convict me?
To a life of imprisonment
Where do I now “Go”?

Christ said “Go!” with authority
But you creepy scoundrels
I refuse to go with your “Go! Go!”
It is the authority that makes the difference

My nightmare was over…
But everyone clamoured
He is:
“The local Bishop in a global Diaspora”

I have no dream…
But a real nightmare!
I am an off-duty policeman.
