The International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INFITT) was inaugurated at the Tamil Inaiyam Conference in Singapore in June 2000. INFITT - European Chapter is concerned to help promote the objectives of INFITT in the European region.
To this end, INFITT General Council Member, Dr.Kalyanasundaram based in Switzerland, has launched an INFITT-Europe Discussion List at <>. Initially, subscription to the list will be "open" to anyone resident in Europe and subscribing to the objectives of INFITT, but this will be reviewed later, in the light of announcements by the INFITT secretariat re subscription fees. tamilnation.org extends its support to the efforts of INFITT and Dr.K.Kalyanasundaram.
During the past decade, and more, substantial amounts of monetary and human resources have been expended by individual Tamils as well as groups, in many parts of the world, to develop standards and software in key areas of Tamil Information Technology.
The inauguration of INFITT in June 2000, reflected the need to encourage, promote and coordinate these various individual, national and regional initiatives.
INFITT will operate as a non-profit non-governmental autonomous organization, international in status, and non-political in management, staffing and operations; and will be organized for coordination, research, development and education. INFITT will not have a regulatory or enforcement role.
