Peace Talks: Priority for day to day problems of the Tamil People
Addressing a Press Conference held in Jaffna recently, official LTTE spokesman and political adviser Anton Balasingham said that the peace talks should give primacy to the urgent problems faced by the Tamil people. He said:-
"The Tamil question has two dimensions. One is the urgent, day-to-day problems faced by the Tamil people. The other, is the basic issues underlying the ethnic conflict. The urgent and the immediate problems arise from the consequences of war, economic embargo and blockade of traffic.
The cumulative effects of war and economic strangulation have created enormous problems affecting seriously the daily existence of the ordinary masses. The peace talks should give primacy to these urgent problems and the Government should take immediate action to redress the grievances of the Tamil people. To win the trust and- goodwill of the Tamils, the new Government should undo the injustices imposed on our people by the old regime".
