"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."

- Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C

Three Nudes

"Experience and memory belong to the past and from the ashes of the past the artist strives to rise even as the firebird, in a revealing of beauty and truth. Yes, the truth of living and dying... In the midst of manifold and evanescent hues of the twilight, there stand widowed trees (Three Nudes) shorn of their leaves and bark, stark and pitiful, with outstretched arms ... to be taken into nothingness. More than anything else, in these paintings, the grass, the twig and the dust and the light behind the shade give Jayalakshmi Satyendra the name of an artist. Subramanya Bharathi went through a process of mental and physical anguish before his poems were born. Every artist needs to bide his or her time to give his or her innermost being as a dedication so that men and women, years hence, will discover their grief and hope in that mirror of art." - C.V.Velupillai, Sri Lanka Sunday Observer, 5 December 1979
