The Australian Tamil Electoral Lobby ( ATEL ) was recently incorporated in the state of NSW to respond to and champion the needs of the Australian Tamil community. The aims and objectives of ATEL are
- To provide a credible and professional platform for the Australian Tamil community leaders to engage with the party machinery of the various Australian political parties.
- To lobby the politicians of all persuasions and inform and educate them of the needs, aspirations and requirements of the Tamil people in Australia and their relatives abroad.
- To influence the political parties to adopt policies and / or legislation that is in the overall interest of the Tamil people in Australia
ATEL will mobilize the Tamil Community to convey the aims and objectives of the ATEL
Engage Tamil community on an ongoing basis to keep Tamil community informed of the progress of it decisions and outcomes.
ATEL will arrange a series of community engagement meetings prior to the Federal election where all parties and candidates would be invited to attend.
Having taken notice of all the opinions and promises of the various parties, ATEL would make recommendation to the Tamil people in all states in Australia as to who to vote for at the next Federal election.
ATEL would proceed to issue a "how to vote" or “Advisory” card including a decision with regard to the distribution of preferences.
ATEL may consider to field candidates in certain electorates where the Tamil vote or preferences may decide the final outcome.
